1. Melody Ranch Museum

Long before Santa Clarita CA was known for epic roller coasters at Six Flags Magic Mountain,it had a rich Hollywood Western culture. Melody Ranch is a great place to see many of the old relics.

After the fire,Autry began selling off pieces of his 110-acre property in Placerita Canyon and the last 10 acres went on the market in November 1990. Brothers Renaud and Andre Veluzat jumped at the opportunity to buy and restore the famous Western movie ranch.

They have built a replica of Hickson’s main street complete with interiors such as hotels,banks,general stores and churches. The company has also recreated a hacienda,as well as a junkyard with old vehicles and tanks. They have a prop house on site to dress sets and offer scouting services for film makers.

2. Chasm Theater Connection

4. Gibbon Conservation Center

The Gibbon Conservation Center is dedicated to the study,conservation and advancement of gibbons – small Asian apes known as the songbirds of the forest. This non-profit wildlife sanctuary is a unique facility that is home to more than 40 gibbons representing 5 of the 17 existing species.

The GCC breeds gibbons of all four gibbon genera (Hoolocks,Hylobatess,Symphalanguss and Siamangs),offers observational research to students,anthropology/biology scholars,and helps with gibbon rescue programmes in Thailand,Taiwanese,Vietnamese and Indonesian. The GCC also provides consulting services to government agencies,zoos and museums (including the U.S.). Fish & Wildlife Service),on gibbon identification,and care for gibbons in captivity.

The Gibbon Conservation Center offers a unique experience. Their staff feeds animals 10 times per day,and they know the personalities of all the animals. Their love and dedication to these animals is contagious.

5. Newhall Press Room

The City of Santa Clarita CA,a 35-mile (55 km) valley northwest of Los Angeles,is home to modern suburban sprawl mixed with Old West ranches and rugged canyons. It’s known as “Hollywood North,” with 20 sound stages and 10 movie ranches attracting filmmakers and bringing local economic benefits.

A chilly November Wednesday saw a Newhall Press Room table crowded with wine lovers,who were all enjoying their favorite vintages while munching on wild mushroom polenta. The tasting was designed to highlight the Press Room’s new scratch kitchen and the growing list of wine by the glass.
